SOCIAL INEQUITIES IN HEALTH

SOCIAL INEQUITIES IN HEALTH LAB DETAILS

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

Research projects conducted in the lab are influenced by theoretical frameworks across disciplines, including those in counseling psychology, health psychology, and public health. These frameworks guide the lab’s conceptualization of health inequities and focus on specific study constructs.

LAB OBJECTIVES: WORD CLOUD

A word cloud created by students in the lab reflecting on ideas and concepts central to our research.

PRIMARY LAB OBJECTIVES

Objective 1: Understand the relationship between economic marginalization and health from an intrapersonal, interpersonal, and community lens.

Objective 2: Identify and apply culturally attuned approaches to assessing health.

RESEARCH MENTORSHIP

My goal is to co-create a mentoring space with you. Some key aspects include:
1: Collaborative – We will work together to identify and cultivate opportunities for you to meet your goals.
2: Developmental – We will create spaces where you can share the knowledge, skills, and resources that you bring to the team. We will also identify areas of growth and paths to explore, learn, and build awareness.
3: Experiential – We will identify opportunities to participate in the research process, including presenting and publishing data.

RESEARCH MENTORSHIP: MY COMMITMENT

My hope is to co-create a lab space that cultivates courageous, engaging, and meaningful dialogue where we can learn with and from one another. I welcome the knowledge and experience that everyone brings into this community. My social positionality, particularly but not limited to, my interlocking identities as a white heterosexual cisgender woman with economic resources, has shaped my perspective of the world including health and well-being. I am committed to engaging in ongoing self-reflection to identify, acknowledge, and mitigate the ways in which my privilege shows up and can perpetuate harm in spaces. My positionality necessitates humility, perspective-tasking, and collaboration in the pursuit of health equity.
